Minnesota Pilot Project Results in Federal Funding for Hunter Brake Testing TechnologyHunter may have played an important role in the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) recent endorsement of Federal funding for states to purchase the technology for commercial vehicle brake testing. At the center of the federal pilot project to study the use of automated brake testing was Hunter's B400T. FHWA conducted a one year evaluation of the B400T at Minnesota's St. Croix Weigh Station, measuring two key areas: Its effectiveness compared to traditional physical/visual inspection; and its ability to screen a higher volume of trucks for brake problems. During the evaluation select vehicles received both physical/visual and B400T inspections. Correlation between the two methods was excellent, according to Minnesota State Commercial Vehicle Inspectors. “ if the brake tester tells you there's a problem, the physical inspection will show us what isn't working.”
